The Kopila Students paid tribute to Motiram Bhatta yesterday in a special assembly

It feels so good to be back at Kopila Valley.  Yesterday the teachers put together a beautiful program dedicated to the famous Nepali linguist and poet, Motiram Bhatta.  Our Nepali teacher, Binay Sir gave a presentation on Motiram's life and contributions to Nepali literature and language while our other Nepali teacher, Prakash Sir read and sang his most famous poems out loud.  The kids were captivated!  Then the students all got up and presented poems of their own.  The Kopila Kids' public speaking has really improved this year and their Nepali poems blew me away.  The teachers are all working on putting together and publishing a book with all the kids writing, poems and art work for the year.  I think it's a great idea!

Then came the long awaited Jeopardy Trivia competition.  It's been going on for weeks and yesterday was the final round where the champions were announced and prizes were distributed. There were 5 rounds that included rapid fire questions, choosing your topic and answering questions relevant to the subject matter, and a buzzer round where the kids had to ring a bell with the right answer.  In one of the rounds, the teachers showed pictures of famous people and played music of famous songs and the kids had to guess who/what they were.  It was awesome and so well put together, I could finally understand why the kids were all so excited and talking about it all week. Some of the questions were REALLY hard. Safira and I kept looking at each other and laughing at how we didn't know the answers and Principal Dipak joked that our kids could appear on the show "Are you smarter than a 5th grader?"

It was a fun afternoon. Friday afternoons the kids have a half day that we try to dedicate to extra-curriculur activities and other fun competitions between each of their particular "house families." The rest of day our team meets together for a staff development meeting. I'm so excited and proud of what's been happening around Kopila Valley. I had a look over the kids' report cards last night and they are really the best they've ever been. Our teachers and administrators are working extremely hard and it's definitely paying off. In the next few weeks the rest of our Kopila Fellows arrive. It's going to be a really great year!

Here are some pictures from school yesterday! Thank you all for making these things possible for us.

Maggie, these are wonderful pictures all of which have a feel-good factor, but for me, the one that has really made my day, is seeing and reading that your principal is General Dipak GURUNG. Super.

This is one of my favorite posts of all time. I feel like I was there and witnessed it all. So happy for all of you that things continue to come together with everyone bringing it about. Trivia or no trivia, group C was stacked with great minds. Great to see Ramey up there in the last photo. Love his smile....
