After school on the playground, I caught a high 5 in action!
Girls playing on the swings. #Adorable!
Nurse Emily's new in-school toothbrushing program in action!!
4th grade super star Alisa Poori. Mark my words this little gal is going places!!
Awesome lunch cooking staff! Ubji, Amrika and Krishna. Imagine cooking a home made lunch from scratch for 350+ every day?
What my lunch looks like every day! I am a lucky girl.
Sisters!! (Me and Libby, our resident English teacher)
Our male teachers in their new snazzy matching shirts.
Learning a song with Lexi and Principal Jeff for music month... "Aint no mountain high enough!"Thank you all for sharing in the excitement over the last couple days announcing our big surprise! For those of you who were wondering, the strike in Surkhet was temporarily lifted and we've been able to run school all week. It's amazing how much better all of our spirits are when we get to come here to this place every day.
Things have been busy kicking off our first month of school. We're still waiting for a few last minute textbooks and other materials to come in and settling logistics and plans for the new year. Our teaching staff is off the hook and I'm really looking forward to introducing them. If I've done my math right, we have a total of seven new teachers! We'll also be welcoming some new administrative members to our team starting next week so we've been busy making preparations to welcome them. Nurse Emily and our visiting health expert volunteer John have been very busy bees in the clinic getting profiles, medical assessments and histories on all of our new students. We've got some big goals for the clinic and our school this year which we'll be sharing with you in the near future!
Love from Kopila Valley Kids and Team!

Wonderful images. I particularly like the tooth-brushing regime in action. And yes, I also counted seven new (male) teachers. All rather nice looking if I may say so ...... Looking at the photograph of the cooks preparing school lunch, I wondered how many days off they get as at least one of them also works at the house. You seem to be feeding a lot of mouths. Time to replenish the coffers, I say. Time for another widget.
Sara Mary, your gift of two microscopes is extremely generous, and their mode of delivery impressively efficient. Amazing.
Sylvia the best investment we can do in life is into good people. These children are the best tonic I ever know and their smile the more corroborating one. I'm happy for their results and their dreams for future, honored by their friendship that's in my heart as precious as a treasure.
Please, Please tell us about the microscopes, especially their delivery as that seems to be the hardest thing for us to pull off.
Great pictures! My fav is the two beautiful Sisters together! Who is that standing on the top of the sliding board with the backpack in the first pic?
nice sister pic :)
ditto!
I like the picture of the kids learning an inspirational song that may also be a not so subtle message from Lexi re: her love and devotion for those beautiful kids.
Uncle Ed: read the blog of Emily, the nurse. When some months ago I thought about her desire to make microscopes I decide to ask her if I can send a real one. She said yes, after balancing with Maggie the choise. I was thinking to the desire to become scientist of some girls of Maggie. This seems to be an universal dream of children, but not so easy to dream for girls in rural Nepal. So I decided to take action.
Then I asked for help to friends living in KTM, because it seems to much hard to send from Europe. After this the microscopes were found and they were so cheap that I decided to buy two. Then I send the money to my friends in KTM and they made all the work. Nepal is a so much complicated puzzle also for me, so it's better to read and manage with the help of a native nepali people, in my opinion. Nurse Emily has the references.
I like the photo of the male teachers too: they remember me Harry Potter (grown) and his friends.
Sara Mary, no matter what the circumstances, yours was a very fine gift and the thought behind it even finer.
P.S:
For Uncle Ed: my friends give me their disponibility to help if you want. Ask nurse Emily their e-mail and telephon number if you need.
Sending positive thinking and prayers to Nepal
