blessed*

One little g who is happy to see me, home!

I’ve been in transit for the past three days, shifting from one broken bus to another on a long long looooooooooong bumpy, dusty, sweaty bus ride.

When I finally reached the Nepali border I found out that there was a strike going on and there were no vehicles allowed to go to Surkhet. Being the crazy person that I am, I hopped on the back of a bicycle rickshaw with my three huge suitcases and my backpack and jumped off to push every time we hit an incline. I’m not sure what I was thinking or how far I thought I could get like this but after about 30 kilometers just when I was about to keel over and give up, I looked back and saw a white jeep with a red cross on it and I started waving my arms in the air as if I was lost or drowning.

When the jeep got closer I realized that it wasn’t a mirage and three educated, well dressed Nepali sweetheart men jumped out and what do you know, they were working with the Swiss Red Cross heading to Surkhet for a meeting! After I told them who I was, (and convinced them that I didn’t have swine flu) and said please please please, with my sweaty hands firmly pressed together, looking at the reflection of my desperate eyes through their sunglasses, they helped me with my bags and let me ride the three hours with them in their fancy A.C. jeep up to Surkhet.

I got home just in time to see 24 children stampeding through the front door decked out in uniforms and backpacks after school. I felt like I’d been away for months. After I got the low down on what happened this week, saw everyone’s new boo boos and missing teeth, we unpacked our new goodies and ate treats sent by my mom and dad. 24 hugs and kisses later I’m in bed listening to the hushed breathing of 24 sleeping children. All that travel is a thing of the past and I am blessed blessed blessed as can be.

Maggie, glad you made it back safely. There were many of us praying for your safe arrival. You certainly make an adventure out of these trips :) Just imagine the stories these 3 gentlemen will have for their
meeting.
