Lalita

Lalita in her hospital bed holding cookies

I ran into this little girl in the hospital the other day.  The bottom half of her entire body is burned.  I've never seen anything like it.  I wished I could have taken her pain away.  She was sitting outside on a stretcher all alone.  No room, no blanket to cover her, no bandaging or medicine.  I tried to focus on the upper half of her body.  Looking at the burns made me sick to my stomach.  During the holidays it's almost impossible to find a doctor around here.  It frustrates me beyond belief.  I said a little prayer of thanks– my own children were at home safe and healthy.  We were all playing with sparklers a few nights ago and Puncka somehow managed to singe off all his eyelashes without burning the inside of his eye.  He's absolutely fine, just eyelash-less.

We were able to find a nurse to clean and dress her burns and a room and she is doing much better now.  Marky and I came back with a blanket and have been checking in on her.  Her mother looks to be about 17 or 18 years old and she's mute.  We could only gather the information through hand motions.  We will be keeping our eyes on this little girl and her mother during their stay in the hospital and making sure they are taken care of.

It looks like it could be a long road to recovery.  The little girl's name is Lalita and she is so so brave.  She amazes me actually.  I feel like I was somehow meant to run into her that day in that moment.  I appreciate your prayers for her.

What a beautiful little girl! I can just imagine how awful those burns are. I think you were definitely meant to meet her and her mom. I'm so glad you will be looking in on them. I will be happy to pray for her and her mom. I'm glad your children are home, safe and sound too!

Maggie...make no mistake about it. It was surely meant to be that you crossed paths with this girl. I'm glad you are keeping watch over her progress...please let us as a group know if there's anything needed in helping her and her mother. Whether it be research or connections or fundraising. I'd like to think of us blog followers as a support team for you.

The girl is so adorable...reminded me of my daughter when i first saw her. please keep us posted on her progress.

Thanks -as always - for all that you do!! :)

Hi Maggie,
Lalita is so beautiful--she reminded me immediately of my granddaughter--they must be about the same age. How did she get burned? She must be very brave since burns are so painful. Please keep us updated on her progress and we will be sending prayers for healing and strength.
Hugs to all!
Melissa
