Our First Day of School!

Yesterday was the first official day of school! In the midst of dressing, combing hair, trimming fingernails, and packing the lunches, and school bags of 15 children I forgot to take a single picture. I know that’s awful. How could I forget my camera on the first day of school? We are still working on our morning schedule and getting ourselves together. Let me assure you, these past two mornings have been CRAZY. You’ll love their little uniforms though... I promise I’ll post a picture ASAP. The kids LOVE school. I swear the best part of my day is when they come bursting through the door with their backpacks, all out of breath, with stories to tell about what happened at school. I think they’re going to do great!
The only other news here, that I’m sure the kids would LOVE to tell you about is that we now have a TV!! Not really a TV because we don’t get any stations... it’s really just for the DVD and for them to watch videos. I’ve been toying with the idea of buying one for 3 months now. So I guess you can say I finally caved in. My parents raised us without television and I really feel like it was the best thing they could have ever done for us. We spent our days playing outside, reading stories, and having dance parties. At some point, I don’t remember how old I was, they bought us a VHS. We spent our Friday and Saturday nights as a family laying in my parents bed watching Narnia, Anne of Green Gables, The Sound of Music. My mom and dad always made pop-corn in the pop-corn machine and homemade lemonade. Tomorrow is a holiday in Nepal and there’s no school! Guess what tonight’s plan is?? We’re making pop-corn and lemonade and laying in bed to watch a movie. Am I the only one that repeats things from my childhood? These days I find myself, doing so many of the things my parents used to do, even talking and explaining things the way my parents used to explain things to me.
Tomorrow I’m actually going to KTM, bringing two little girls for operations. One Geyatri, a little three year old with anorectal malformation and another 8 year old girl, Vinta with a birth defect known as arthrogryphosis of her arms. They have to get some tests done and then we’ll see where to go next. I learned a lot about these two diseases at the conference I attended in KTM a few weeks ago. The outlook is really good. As you’re reading this I’ll probably be in the bus, trying to endure the 18 hour bus ride.
That’s all! Everything is well here. Thanks for reading and HAPPY SPRING to all of you back in the states. The kids are calling... it’s movie time!
